Do Buses at Kids: Poems About School by Laura Purdie Salas (Capstone Press, 2008)
The Lovewell Family sent me this book as a prize and I thought it would be fun to try writing school poems.
The book is full of cool poems in all shapes and and sizes and about all kinds of things to do with school — weird AND wonderful!
Here are some of the titles of poems: ‘Do Buses Eat Kids’ ‘Ordinary’ ‘Stand Up Straight’ [that’s about letters not children BTW!) ‘Friend Quiz’ ‘Make it Up’ ‘What’s For Lunch’ ‘Take Your Best Shot’
I challenge you to have a go at writing a school poem in any shape and size you choose. It might be funny or serious or mysterious or wacky or bad or fascinating or ….. you choose!
I will give the book to one young poet and post my favourites. Three cheers for the Lovewell family!
