On 3rd October A Treasury of NZ Poems for Children is out in the world so not many more sleeps.
I have three special challenges for you all. I decided to share them now, so you can start work on them over the holidays. I will post them again on Day One of Term 4 before I head off on The Hot Spot Poetry Tour of NZ.
On 3rd October I will post a special launch day challenge.
Treasury Challenge Number One
Use a poem you love to help you write another poem. See below the poem a class at Gladstone wrote after being inspired by my ‘Anifable’ poem in The Letterbox Cat.
You can use the same structure or pattern as the poem.
You can use the same idea as the poem.
You can play with the original poem and make it different.
You could start the poem with the same start word as the poet on every line.
You could end each line with the same end word as the poet.
You could just use the same title.
Make sure you say: My poem was inspired by ….. (the name of the poem and the poet).
I will post all my favourites and will have a copy of The Treasury for a couple of you.
DEADLINE for your Treasury-Poem Challenge: Monday 3rd November
Send to paulajoygreen@gmail.com. Include your name, year, age and name of school. You can include your teacher’s name and email. PLEASE say it’s for the Treasure-Poem challenge.
I will post my favourites and have a book prize for a couple of poets (Year 0 to Year 8).
The Animix Zoo
(inspired by Paula Green’s ‘Anifables’)
The Crococat snaps and naps,
The Mouseafrog leaps and creeps,
The Rhinobull rages and charges,
The Tigersaurus is carnivorous,
The Octopup chases its tails,
The Cheetaquail is fast and frail,
The Doggadile lurks and barks,
The Crocodog begs and basks,
The Elephorse can stomp and clop
The Hippopig wallows in slop,
The Crocoduck like to spy and dive
The Rhinobird can charge and glide
The Chickapups can peck and pant,
Wait til you see the SabreAnt!
The Parrowhale can screech and breach.
(But the Lionsnake is totally fake.)
Screeching, loud, with a spying feature –
I’m pretty sure one is my teacher!
Crazy creatures at the Zoo,
But what will happen to me and you?
