Welcome back after the holidays.
I am on tour in Northland this week visiting schools and doing a few events for librarians and teachers thanks to The New Zealand Book Council, UNESCO and The National Library.
1. You still have time to get your entries for the Fourth Fabulous Poetry Competition in to The NZ Book Council (see here).
2. You still have time to vote in The Children’s Choice part of the Book Awards. Yes! The Letterbox Cat is a finalist! Vote here.
3. A welcome back challenge
To celebrate their tenth anniversary, Gecko Press is giving away a swag of books! They do utterly gorgeous books. Take a look on their web site here. The books look EXTRA good and the stories are always EXTRA good too. I like to think of superlatives when I think of Gecko Press: utterly extraordinary astonishing send-you-to-the-moon-and-back books!
Thank you Gecko Press for being Gecko Press. We LOVE you!
I invite young poetry fans to write a poem as a birthday present for Gecko Press.
I picked some titles from their catalogue. Choose one as the title of your poem and let your imagination fly!
DEADLINE for your Gecko-Poem Challenge: Wednesday July 29th
Send to email@example.com. Include your name, year, age and name of school. You can include your teacher’s name and email. PLEASE say it’s for the Gecko-Poem challenge.
I will post my favourites and have Gecko books for some poets. See below and tell me which one you would like!
